Bullying

Bullying is a major concern of the modern society. So many people are obsessed with preventing it and creating content to help bullies, victims and everyone in between. This makes us think that bullying is bad and is stopped everyday. But what if I tell you that teachers and councellors don't care if you are bullied? That is what I am going to tell you about.

I was bullied for my entire life, for as long as I can remember. First - for my last name, then for being a lesbian(while being homophobic), then for the made up rumors about liking guys, being desperate and for being a nerd.

You would think that I should do something about it - my ongoing bullying experience is not helping me. But I told a lot of people - teachers, councellors, guidance teachers and pupil support. Basically, everyone who could solve the problem. None of them even tried.

When I ask my guidance teacher about why people tolerate bullying, he says that they are doing the right thing by tolerating it and not getting help. But why?

And my bullying is really affecting me. It is not like I am tolerating only rumors or light stuff. Let me tell you a story that is something like what happens to me at least weekly:

I am sitting in art class and sketching a drawing of a vase in front of me. A girl from a different class passes by and takes my pencilcase. I put my pencil down and go up to her.
"Excuse me, can I have my pencilcase back. Please?" I say to her in a sweet voice, smiling to not make her uncomfortable for the crime she committed.
"What? Who are you?" she replies in a rude voice, as if I am interrupting her life.
"I am Diana, from XYZ Art Class. You took my pale blue pencilcase a moment ago. Can I have it back?" I reply to her.
"Firstly, I don't know what you are talking about and I haven't seen your stupid pencilcase. I. Do. Not. Have. It. Get lost." She says, getting angry.
"I saw you take it. So did all of my friends. I don't want to have to go to the teacher. Please, there will be less trouble if you give it back now." I say, still staying calm.
"I don't have it. Please, go away and don't accuse me of what I haven't done. And go ahead and tell the teacher because anyway I don't have it." She replies and walks away.
I go to the guidance office, but as always my guidance teacher is not there. I tell another guidance teacher that is present there that a girl stole my pencilcase.
"Ignore her. Forgive. It is just another old pencilcase." the guidance teacher says, hearing my story.
"But how am I going to go to school without a pencilcase?" I ask, completely confused.
"Borrow from friends." He replies, as if it is obvious that if you lose something worth over £40 in value, you should let it go without trying.
I start tearing up because he is as rude as the bully and I lost something so expensive that I got only a month ago and my mom is going to tell me off. Now he takes action.
The girl does not confess that day. When the guidance teacher threatens her with a detention in DR3, she gives it back. Almost everything was broken in the pencilcase. I didn't want her to get into more trouble, so I looked over that fact.

Another thing that happens to me all the time, literally all the time, is people I don't know walking up to me in class and in hallways and saying 'You are soo weird.". Why? I don't know. But all I can reply is 'Okay.' and 'Thanks' or 'I know.'

The thing is, when people say, ignore bullies and they will stop, it doesn't really work. If I ignore them, they go even further. They think I haven't heard them so they shout it or say it in front of the teacher.

And teachers can solve this. So can guidance teachers. And pupil support. And councellors. But they don't care unless you are straight up crying. My guidance teacher encourages people who withstand bullying on a daily basis to not tell anyone and feel bad but not waste his time. What? Who does that?

All I am saying is, live life and sort the bullying stuff yourself. From my experience, bullies are people who are jealous and have nothing better to do. All you have to do is stand strong and feel sorry for them because they are not smart enough to do anything useful, so they try to prevent you from doing it.

And remember, you are smarter, prettier and better than them!
BY THIS MUCH!!!
